A Good Ole Naked Time: Part 1

By Audrey Pinkmane

There are many benefits to being naked, both social and medical. We’re going to discuss this in two parts. The first part we’re doing is social.

Social Benefits of Being Naked

Wearing clothes is a lot like wearing makeup. Clothes, lingerie and anything you put on your body should not be used to change how you look, but to emphasize the best things about yourself. When I was in high school, I wore a TON of makeup. We’re talking blue eyeshadow up to the eyebrows, red lipstick, eyeliner on the top and bottom, globs of mascara and tons of blush every single day.

All throughout freshman year, I wore makeup like this all the time. One day, for some reason, I got really honest with myself. I was at home and I looked at myself in the mirror, and realized I hated the way I looked without makeup. So, in a moment of strength, I decided to stop wearing it all together. In the beginning, it was terrible. I cried a lot because of the way I looked and the comments people made.

But after a while, I started really liking myself. More than I had liked myself since I was a kid.

For one thing, my skin cleared up because I wasn’t clogging it up every single day. But I also started to notice features of my face that I had really been covering up with the makeup. Now I only wear makeup on special occasions, and I genuinely like my face, which is more than I could say for 14-year-old me.

Now I’m not suggesting that you become a nudist and head straight for the beaches, but you should spend some time being naked at least once every couple of days, so that you learn to love your body for the beautiful work of art that it is. Walk around your house naked, and you’ll notice very soon that you’ll start feeling way more comfortable in your own skin.

This is also great for being with a partner. Being naked around your partner really gets rid of the idea that you have to make yourself up with bustiers and thongs every time you see them. Even something as simple as going braless on a date can make you feel much more confident in your body and sharing it with your partner.

When you’re in a new sexual relationship, you get the urge to look your best at all times, and there’s nothing wrong with that. As long as you’re not changing yourself so that they don’t see certain sides of you.

Being naked more often around your partner can get rid of that impulse to suck in your gut as soon as you take your shirt off, or to always lay flat so that your boobs don’t look saggy. It’s liberating, and if you’re with the right person, they’re going to love being around you and seeing you be your natural self.
